Canfield and township debate water and sewer service

CANFIELD

Canfield city officials are reacting to Canfield Township looking to the ABC Water and Storm Water District for line service to a proposed nursing home, among other businesses.

Joe Warino, Canfield city manager, said ABC's proposal of being able to put in lines in three to six months for new service to the southern parts of the township are "extremely aggressive."

"If it's so easy to accomplish, why haven't they done anything?" questioned Warino.

The lines would be put in after ABC gauges customer interest. Canfield trustees will be approving a resolution later today to allow ABC to approach potential customers in the township.

Warino also mentioned township Trustee Stephen Maszczak's comments about no longer needing city services for a proposed Windsor House care facility, bordered by state Route 446 and Mill Creek MetroParks Farm.

The city and township have been in talks regarding the two sharing tax revenue and costs of police and fire protection and road maintenance for the site, and how water and sanitary service are to be provided.

"I don't think that helps negotiating," Warino said. "I know there is a clock ticking and Mr. [John] Masternick [of Windsor House] is not going to wait."

ABC Water District was formed in 2009 and its member townships are

Canfield, Boardman, and Austintown. Their board consists of all three

township's administrators: Keith Rogers with Canfield, Mike Dockery with Austintown, and Jason Loree of Boardman.
