“Community Connection” (Sunday at 6:30 a.m. on 21 WFMJ-TV, and 11 a.m. on WBCB): Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Mahoning Valley will have its annual fundraiser, Bowl for Kid’s Sake Bowl-a-Thon, next Saturday. Kim Carolyne of the organization will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss the event.

Next, Danetta Claybrook and Judy Schenker of Women of His Vision, will discuss the upcoming Women’s Rally in the Valley and encourage participation.

Christie’s to auction portrait of Malala

NEW YORK

A portrait of a Pakistani teenager shot by the Taliban for championing education for girls will be auctioned next month.

The oil painting by Jonathan Yeo shows Malala Yousafzai doing her homework. It is being donated by the artist to benefit the Malala Fund, which campaigns for girls’ education.

Christie’s New York is offering the portrait May 14. It’s expected to bring $60,000 to $80,000.

It was painted months after the then-15-year-old Malala was shot as she traveled to school in 2012.

President Barack Obama called Malala the “bravest girl in the world.” She now lives in England.

Yeo is a portrait painter whose works are in the Royal Collection and the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Wallenda’s next feat

CHICAGO

Daredevil Nik Wallenda is in Chicago scouting possible locations for a tightrope walk between two skyscrapers in the fall. Wallenda has walked across Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon in the past two years.
