Niles Relay will feature luminarias

Relay for Life of Niles will take place from 6 p.m. May 2 to 6 p.m. May 3 at the Mayor Infante Wellness Center at Waddell Park, 213 Sharkey Drive.

Luminarias will be placed around the track while participants walk or jog laps. There will be music, entertainment and food to build team spirit in the fight against cancer.

Highlights of the event will include:

May 2 at 5:30 p.m.: Opening ceremonies

6 p.m.: Cancer survivors and caregivers lap

6:30 p.m.: Survivors dinner

9 p.m.: Luminaria ceremony

May 3 at 10 a.m.: Window of Hope ceremony

Noon: Children’s hour

1 p.m.: Edison’s Medicine, ’80s band

5 p.m.: Closing ceremonies

Teams are composed of up to 15 people from local companies, clubs, neighborhoods and families who help raise funds before the event. At the event team members walk around the track and camp for the night.

Relay for Life also honors survivors and remembers friends and loved ones lost to the disease.
