New warning siren to serve downtown, YSU areas

YOUNGSTOWN

A new outdoor emergency warning siren has been installed on the Mahoning County jail to serve the city’s downtown and Youngstown State University areas, bringing the county’s total number of emergency sirens to 52, Dennis O’Hara, county interim emergency management director, told the county commissioners Thursday.

The sirens in the system sound for one minute in a noon test every Saturday.

The public is urged to call the county’s emergency management agency at 330-740-2200 to report any sirens that fail to sound during these tests.
