Two face charges in Boardman drug arrest

A 29-year-old Youngstown woman will be arraigned in Mahoning County Court in Boardman at 5:30 p.m. today on multiple charges including receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony.
Tina Torres of East Myrtle Avenue also is charged with drug abuse of a Schedule I or II substance, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant for failing to appear in Boardman court on a theft charge.
Torres lists the Youngs-town Board of Education as her employer, but the Youngstown City Schools had no record of her as an employee.
Also charged is William Prokop, 42, of Thalia Avenue in Youngstown. He is charged with possession of crack cocaine, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police received a tip Tuesday evening that a man and a woman at the Town and Country Motel on Market Street had a stolen credit card. When police approached the two, identified as Prokop and Torres, Prokop purportedly put the credit card in the bushes.
Police removed a glass crack pipe with residue from Prokop’s pocket and detained him because he refused to comply, according to a police report.
Police asked Torres if there was anything illegal in the motel room. She told police there wasn’t, but police saw another crack pipe in plain view.
She admitted to police there also was another crack pipe in the room. Police found the pipe and a plastic bag with less than one gram of crack cocaine, a burnt spoon and other accessories, according to a police report.
Police found the stolen credit card in the bushes. The woman it belonged to told police Torres is her daughter, and she had stolen her card and made unauthorized purchases of $919.
The court date for Prokop was not known Wednesday.
Torres was charged with misdemeanor theft in Boardman for purportedly stealing clothing from Kmart in January 2013. A bench warrant was issued for her because she failed to appear for a hearing.
In January, Torres was charged with two counts of possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia and endangering children after Liberty Township police saw her driving on Colonial Drive with her child not in a safety seat, according to a police report.
Police discovered she was driving under suspension and stopped her. Police found a crack pipe on her and marijuana and suspected crack cocaine in her vehicle.
The fifth-degree felony offense for possession of cocaine was bound over to Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, while the other drug charges were dismissed. The endangering-children charge was lowered to disorderly conduct, and she was placed on probation for a year, according to Girard Municipal Court records.
Prokop has no recent criminal charges, according to court records.
