“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s State Fair,SDRq New Castle Playhouse, 202 E. Long Ave., New Castle, Pa., auditions 6 to 8 p.m. April 27 and 28. Actors must be prepared to sing a vocal selection. Provide sheet music for an available accompanist, use an accompaniment CD with no vocal track, or sing a cappella. Performances will be July 25-Aug. 3; the first weekend’s shows will be Friday-Sunday, and second weekend shows will be Thursday-Sunday. “Songs by Sondheim” musical revue, directed by Anthony Ruggiero, Area Community Theatre of Sharpsville, Pierce Opera House, 100 N. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville, Pa., auditions 2 to 4 p.m. May 18 and 7 to 9 p.m. May 20. Sondheim’s most-popular musicals include “Into the Woods,” “A Little Night Music,” “Company,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Follies,” “Assassins,” “Sunday in the Park with George” and “Sweeney Todd.” Those auditioning can sing a Sondheim song or something else, and it can be a solo or a duet. There will be several group numbers in the show. Auditions are open to high school students and adults. Rehearsals for the review will begin in July.
