YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested two men in separate incidents Tuesday after they were stopped for walking in the street and suspected drugs were found on them.

About 4:10 p.m., officers spotted John Hanysh, 42, of Boardman, walking at West Delason Avenue at Hillman Street on the South Side and not using the sidewalk, a violation of a city ordinance.

As the officers walked over to him, reports said Hanysh took a bag out of his coat pocket and swallowed it. When officers asked him if he had swallowed a bag of crack cocaine, reports said he told the officers, “No, it was heroin.”

He was arrested on charges of possession of heroin and tampering with evidence and taken to Mahoning County jail. He was also cited for walking in the roadway.

At 5:35 p.m. on West LaClede and Hudson avenues, officers saw Darres E. Jackson, 30, of Youngstown, walking in the South Side roadway and stopped to talk to him.

Reports said that when he pulled his wallet out of his pocket he had two bags of suspected crack cocaine in it. Police arrested him on the charge of possession of drugs/cocaine.

As he was being taken to the jail, reports said he was repeatedly fidgeting in the back seat of the police car. When he got out of the car at the jail, a bag of suspected heroin was found where he was sitting. Police added an additional charge of possession of drugs/heroin.
