Valley car sales improve

Local car dealers enjoyed a solid month of new-vehicle sales last month, moving 2,694 vehicles off their lots in March compared with 2,577 during the same time last year, according to the latest data from the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.

Used-vehicle sales also were up in March, bringing the total number of new and used vehicles sold in the Mahoning Valley to 7,332. Overall, sales outpaced last March by nearly 500 units.

The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze again held the top spot among new cars, with 298 sold. The Chevrolet Equinox and Malibu models rounded out the top three on the new-car list, with 182 and 144 cars sold respectively.

The Chevrolet Impala, Malibu and Silverado 1500 were the most-popular used cars last month.

Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown led all dealers with 365 vehicles sold. Sweeney Buick GMC of Boardman sold 251 vehicles, and Stadium GM Superstore in Salem rounded out the top three with 242 vehicles sold.
