SHARON, PA.

An open house for Sharon Regional Health System’s School of Nursing, 740 E. State St., will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at which prospective applicants can meet faculty, receive information on financial assistance, and tour the facilities.

Through an agreement with Penn State Shenango, Sharon Regional offers students the opportunity to simultaneously earn a diploma in nursing from Sharon Regional and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Penn State Shenango.

Healthy program

A free community program to help participants adopt healthy eating habits is offered by Bridget Lackey, registered dietitian and community health educator for Humility of Mary Health Partners, in April, May and June at Humility House, 755 Ohltown Road.

The classes are 12:30 to 2 p.m. Class dates and topics are: Thursday, “Portion Control;” May 15, “Label Reading;” and June 19, “Eating Mindfulness.”

Free education

YOUNGSTOWN

Humility of Mary Health Partners is offering a free wound care education program from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 22 in Finnegan Auditorium inside St. Elizabeth Health Center, 1044 Belmont Ave.

Registered nurses and limited practical nurses who attend the entire program will be awarded 5.75 contact hours. The program is free and open to all nurses, but reservations are required. Call 330-480-3440 by Wednesday. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

HMHP is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, and an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Planners and presenters have no real or perceived conflicts of interest that relate to this program.

Volunteer class

CALCUTTA

Hospice of the Valley’s new volunteer class will be 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays, April 25 through May 23, at the Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 15872 St. Clair Ave., Calcutta.

New volunteers are needed for all areas of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties and western Pennsylvania. Volunteer assignments are made close to the volunteer’s home. For information or to register, call 330-788-1992.

Volunteers wanted

BOARDMAN

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is looking for volunteers for its new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Duties include welcoming new parents and families, stocking parent/family new room pantry and bedside, offering clerical assistance, preparing coffee, cleaning and straightening up toys and games.

Volunteers are needed for three-hour blocks of time between 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 4 to 7 p.m. Applicants must be over the age of 18. Interested persons should call 330-746-8352.
