Former Metroplex to be auctioned again May 7

The former MetroPlex and conference center, now a Rodeway Inn, will be auctioned at 11 a.m. May 7.

Chartwell Auctions LLC will offer the 11-acre property at a $735,000 minimum bid as one of 25 properties at a live auction at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Independence.

The center, at 1620 Motor Inn Drive off Belmont Avenue, was also auctioned in November, but the highest bid did not meet an undisclosed reserve amount.

In March, a dryer fire did $75,000 in damage to the hotel, and owner Indira Periyasamy evicted tenants and closed it. It has been closed ever since.
