YWCA will host racism seminar
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
The YWCA of Youngstown will host a Stand Against Racism event from 8:30 to 11 a.m. April 25 at Kilcawley Center, One University Plaza, at Youngstown State University.
The program is intended to raise awareness of racism and to make sure it is not ignored.
The YWCA created the Stand Against Racism to combat hate and intolerance and to honor and celebrate the richness of diversity.
The event will include a screening of the documentary “An Ordinary Hero” featuring Joan Mulholland, who participated in civil rights efforts during the 1960s.
Organizations, corporations, schools, hospitals, houses of worship and government agencies in Mahoning County are asked to become participating sites.
There is no cost to participate, and sites will be listed on the YWCA website as advocates for racial justice. Register online at www.standagainstracism.net/registration.php.
Participating Sites also are asked to attend and support the April 25 Stand Against Racism, or host your own Stand, which can either be open to the public or for your group only.
A Stand can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as desired, and the YWCA will provide documents for support.
The major sponsor for this event is the International Institute Fund, a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
For information, call the YWCA at 330-746-6361.
