Second Sundays jazz show with B3
YOUNGSTOWN
Niayana Records’ Second Sundays jazz series continues Sunday at the Tyler History Center, 325 Federal St., downtown, with power trio B3, which will perform from 5 to 8 p.m.
Foods will be prepared by Guy’s BBQ. Admission is $20 (couples, $35).
The event will benefit the Basement, an outreach agency in Warren under the direction of Pastor Julia Wike.
B3 consists of keyboardist Cliff Barnes, who has performed with David Sanborn, Pieces of a Dream and SounDoctrine; his brother, bassist Nathan Barnes; and their cousin, drummer Kent Barrett Barnes Jr., who has worked with Mark T Jackson and Darren Thomas. The band works in fusion, funk, soul, traditional bop and smooth jazz genres.
Second Sundays director Jere Beulah and Youngstown State University professor Alton Merrell are targeting high school musicians. Their hope is to form a regional jazz ensemble to provide a transition from high school to Dana School of Music. Parents and band directors can contact Beulah at jereb@niayana.com.
