Police charge but seek David Grohl Alley vandal

WARREN

Police have filed criminal charges against 35-year-old Miami resident Kurtis Aguilera, charging him with vandalizing some of the art in David Grohl Alley.

Now they have to locate him.

Police say they received help from the public after they released surveillance video showing Aguilera damaging about 10 paintings and a steel sculpture in the downtown alley early Saturday.

During their investigation, Warren police discovered that Aguilera was also responsible for at least 15 “tagging” incidents in the city.

Police say they don’t know if Aguilera, who apparently has relatives in Warren, is still in the city. One of the tagging incidents occurred within the past couple days.

Tagging involves painting images, usually containing words that distinguish the person’s message from other messages, in public places.

Lt. Jeff Cole of the Warren Police Department says the investigation revealed that Aguilera had been leaving his messages in various locations in the city for about a month.

Using social media, police discovered that Aguilera has tagged locations in Miami and San Francisco, Cole said.

The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Gangs and Graffiti unit provided Warren police with a jail mug of Aguilera and other information that assisted in the investigation, Cole said.
