Stephanopoulos gives 128 photos to museum

GLENS FALLS, N.Y.

ABC morning show anchor George Stephanopoulos has donated nearly 130 photographs by more than a dozen significant photographers to an upstate New York museum.

Officials at The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls tell The Post-Star that Stephanopoulos, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton, has donated 128 photos by 14 photographers, including Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Director Charles Guerin says Stephanopoulos was aware of two photography exhibits currently displayed at the museum and offered to donate part of his collection. The museum, better known for its Rembrandt and Picasso artwork, had been considering building its collection of photography before the offer was made.

Stephanopoulos, who anchors “Good Morning America” and “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” calls the museum “the perfect home” for his photographs.

Jane Pauley will contribute to CBS News

NEW YORK

Former “Today” show host Jane Pauley is joining CBS News to occasionally contribute stories to the “Sunday Morning” broadcast.

She’s expected to make her first appearance in the next few weeks. CBS’ Bob Schieffer announced the move Wednesday at a symposium held at Texas Christian University.

Pauley, who is 63, is in the midst of promoting her new book, about people who switch careers late in life. Pauley was partners with Tom Brokaw and Bryant Gumbel at NBC’s “Today” show in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Pauley said she owed her 40-year NBC career partly to CBS. She was on a local CBS station in Indianapolis when an out-of-towner in for the Indianapolis 500 watched her broadcast. Pauley soon got a call from NBC.

F. Lee Bailey denied law license in Maine

PORTLAND, MAINE

Celebrity lawyer F. Lee Bailey has been denied the right to practice law in Maine in a 4-2 decision by Maine’s highest court.

The ruling Thursday overturns a previous decision by a single justice who found that Bailey was fit to practice law because he was sufficiently rehabilitated after mishandling a client’s stocks worth $6 million.

Bailey, whose high-profile clients have included O.J. Simpson and Patty Hearst, was previously licensed in Massachusetts and Florida, but was disbarred in those states for his handling of the stocks.

The 80-year-old Bailey, who lives in Maine, already passed the bar in that state.

But the Maine Supreme Court concluded that he had not demonstrated that he understood the seriousness of his actions that led to his disbarment in the other states.
