Lions’ Club International District Governor Tom Zickefoose attended the March meeting of the Boardman Lions, which took place at the Magic Tree.
Zickefoose gave the Award of Excellence recognition for the past year to the club. He presented the patch and pin to last year’s club president Terry Shears who accepted it, citing that it was an award given to recognize club members and how they contributed to bettering the community. Zickefoose noted the club’s contributions to the Eye Care Foundation, Pilot Dogs Program, Lions Club International Foundation and the American Diabetes Association.
“We’re here to save sight,” Zickefoose said. “And this club is doing an excellent job at trying to achieve that goal.”
Other sight-related issues taken on by the club include used eyeglass collections, white cane collections and eye screenings at the Canfield Fair, Boardman Community Day and in schools and pre-schools.
In April and May the club will be visiting all Boardman Township fourth-graders to present each of them with a tree to plant at Arbor Day at the Rescue Mission, and awarding service scholarships to two township graduating seniors.
