The Trumbull County Republican Party will have its monthly breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Perkins Restaurant, 1953 Niles Cortland Road across from the entrance to Eastwood Mall. Becky Albrecht will speak on “Smart Meters.” All interested people are invited to attend.

Annual gala set

WARREN

Inspiring Minds, a Warren program that promotes youth achievement, will have its eighth annual gala at St. Demetrios Community Center at 4 p.m. Saturday. The sold-out program will feature a $7,500 check presentation by General Motors.

Former Inspiring Minds students Shawna’ King and Marvin Logan will be masters of ceremonies.

Seminar deadline

Registration deadline is next Thursday for an 8:30 a.m. April 24 Raymond John Wean Foundation seminar instructing nonprofit organizations in strategies for obtaining support from corporations. It will be in Room 117 in the Technology Building at Kent State University at Trumbull, 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW. To register, go to www.rjweanfdn.org.Cost is $10.

Forestry camp

CORTLAND

The Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will sponsor two students to attend the Ohio Forestry Association’s Forestry and Wildlife Camp from June 8 to 13 at Camp Muskingum in Carroll County. Deadline to apply is April 24.

It is a weeklong resident camp for high school students that teaches about forestry. It is open to students at least 15 years old who have completed eighth grade. To apply stop at 520 W. Main St.

The Trumbull County Democratic Party has opened its campaign headquarters at 5580 Youngstown-Warren Road, former site of Damon’s Restaurant.

Drugs seized at Warren home

WARREN

The Warren Police Department Street Crimes Unit seized street drugs valued at $4,000 during a raid Tuesday at 2165 Ogden St. NW.

Officers entered the home with a search warrant after a three-month investigation, seizing 1 ounce of cocaine, a half-ounce of crack cocaine, a quarter-ounce of heroin, marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms.

Officers also found a loaded handgun, three scales, three cook vessels used to manufacture crack cocaine and about $2,000 in cash. The two people at the home were released pending additional investigation and analysis of the drugs by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
