Deputy in collision

WARREN

Maj. Harold Firster of the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office suffered minor injuries in a collision with a semi tractor at 8:06 a.m. Wednesday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Firster was westbound on U.S. Route 422 in a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck and trying to stop a vehicle involved in a pursuit that began in Warren. The semi, driven by Norman Beitzer, 57, of Warren, was eastbound on Route 422 near Anderson Anthony Road.

Firster, 64, of Warren, had made a left turn into the crossover at Anderson Anthony, Warren Township, in an effort to cut off the pursuit vehicle, and Beitzer moved from the right lane to the left lane, the OSHP said. The collision occurred as Firster pulled partially into the left lane of Route 422 eastbound. Beitzer was not injured.
