Habitat home

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown’s first Habitat for Humanity home received its concrete floor Saturday as construction moves ahead for an area veteran. O’Neill Concrete, Youngstown, donated concrete needed to create the slab for the base of a new home for Marine Corps veteran James Skok at 3889 New Road. Monica Craven, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County, said the home will be handicap-accessible with a zero-step entrance.

She said this Saturday, members from Austintown Community Church and Home Savings, as well as family and friends of Skok’s, will put up the four walls. Craven said several contractors will work on putting up the roof trusses, and then shingling the roof will happen Easter weekend, as of now. Craven said crews will work every Wednesday and Saturday, except for holiday weekends, until June to finish the home.
