CANFIELD

People packed Canfield High School on Saturday for the Lions Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Canfield club expects to raise at least $7,000 from the craft, antique and quilt show, said Caroline Phillips, event chairwoman.

“We try and get a little bit of everything so that we have a variety for people to shop,” she said.

More than 130 vendors offered doll clothes, cupcakes, soaps, candles, photos and more.

Brenda Martin of Austintown attended the annual show for the first time. She and her siblings frequently attend craft shows, she said.

“I think it’s great,” she said. “It’s big. I’m surprised it’s this big in here. There’s a lot of vendors.”

She didn’t find anything to buy but enjoyed looking around.

“It’s nice to just get ideas and see how people come up with different things,” Martin said. “There’s a whole lot of variety.”

Donna Deluca and Dianne Gagliano, both of Liberty, weren’t looking for anything in particular.

“Just something cute,” said Gagliano.

They’ve attended in the past.

“It’s a nice day. We decided to get out of the house, walk round a little bit, see if we find some new crafts,” Deluca said.

The show is big, noted Gagliano.

“And a big variety,” she said. “That’s what I like about it.”

Neither is a crafter.

“It’s something we don’t do, and we like to see what other people can do,” Gagliano said.

It was the second year as a vendor for Karen Nemergut of Girard. She enjoys sharing her hobby at craft shows.

“I make easy-to-prepare mixes,” she said.

Her mixes include soups, desserts, appetizers, salads and more. Most are prepared by adding water. A couple, such as the wedding soup and unstuffed pepper soup, require meat to be added.

“It’s just pretty simple,” Nemergut said.

People are busy, she said, and with the mixes, they can come home and have a meal in half an hour.

The craft show went well, she said. She sold out of some mixes.

The event also included 50/50 basket raffles.

Proceeds benefit the Lions Club’s sight, diabetes, scholarship, disaster-relief and community-need programs.
