Young adults honored Tuesday in Boardman

Twenty young people who have shown exemplary leadership through community volunteerism and academic success will be honored during the inaugural Mahoning County Twenty Under 20 banquet.
All the honorees were chosen based on a calculation of 50 percent for volunteer work, 25 percent for academics and 25 percent for extracurricular activities.
Students being honored are: Max Morrow, Marcus Masello and Alan Burns of Boardman High School; Scott Erb, Christian Moore, Kent Hilderbrand and Emily Erb of South Range High School; Michelle Whiteleather, Ernest Barkett, Drew Bennett and Richard Jenkins of Canfield High School; Christina Garcia, Akeera Mitchell and Skylar Berger of Youngstown Early College; Zach Cain of Springfield High School; Murphy Sharp and Michael Angiolelli of Cardinal Mooney High School; and Zack While, Victoria Armour and Tradaiza Merchant of Austintown Fitch High School.
Five of these students will be awarded the top prize at the event and will receive a cash award, which they will donate to a registered local charity of their choice. Those top five awards will be presented 6 p.m. Tuesday at The Georgetown, 5945 South Ave.
Among the event sponsors are Town Crier Community Newspapers, Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, and Mahoning Valley Parent Magazine.
