MCSWD hosts Envirothon event for middle-school students

CANFIELD — The Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District will host Mahoning County’s 2014 Junior Envirothon, an academic, outdoor environmental competition for middle-school students.

Teams are tested on their knowledge of soils, forestry, aquatics, wildlife and a current environmental issue, which this year will be composting. Working together, the students gain team-building skills, knowledge of science, and appreciation for local natural resources. 

The event will be Thursday at Mill Creek MetroParks’ Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road. The district is looking for businesses who would like to support the event.
