Legacy Dog Rescue will have a dog-food giveaway from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Family Video, 4385 Kirk Road, in conjunction with the group’s monthly adoption event. There is a limited supply of cat food available.
Food will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Recipients must meet eligibility guidelines to qualify for the food, including receiving some type of government assistance or unemployment compensation or, if benefits have expired, proof of having received them.
Arrested on 3 warrants
YOUNGSTOWN
Police arrested Stacy Walker, 33, on three warrants about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday after she was seen as a passenger in a car that was stopped for driving in reverse at Woodcrest and Magnolia avenues on the East Side.
Reports said Walker, of Youngstown, had warrants from Youngstown Municipal Court for failure to appear on charges of walking in the roadway and possession of drugs, and she had another warrant from Columbiana County. Police also found a syringe where she was sitting, and also charged her with possession of drug paraphernalia.
They cited the car’s driver, Samuel Lanier, 48, of Youngstown, on charges of driving under suspension and improper backing.
Jewelry reported stolen
AUSTINTOWN
A township woman reported Wednesday two sets of earrings were stolen from her residence.
She told police that sometime between 8:40 a.m. March 12 and 5 p.m. March 18, two sets of gold and diamond earrings were taken from a desk in her spare room in her home on Bexley Drive.
One pair is valued at $1,400, and the second is worth $1,800. The victim told police there were no signs of forced entry and she has an alarm in her home.
House fire investigated
YOUNGSTOWN
Investigators are trying to find the cause of a fire that led to $9,000 in damage to home at 530 W. LaClede Ave. on the South Side.
Reports said the homeowner called 911 about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday after returning home and finding the house full of smoke. Firefighters found no fire but heavy smoke inside, reports said, because the fire was starved of oxygen.
No one was injured. Reports list a preliminary cause as unintentional.
Drug indictment
WARREN
Jason Burns, 33, of Aquadale Drive in Boardman has been indicted on charges of felony heroin possession, aggravated drug possession and misdemeanor drug possession.
He will be arraigned April 14 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
He was arrested in December after co-workers found him acting strangely while at his job as a paralegal assistant to Warren Law Director Greg Hicks.
Burns was one of 12 people indicted on drug and alcohol charges Thursday by a Trumbull County grand jury.
Fundraiser set
YOUNGSTOWN
A pasta dinner to benefit Eddie Rivera, a Youngstown Water Department employee, and his family will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Christine’s Gutman Hall, 3125 S. Schenley Ave. Rivera suffers from cancer.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children. Takeout will be available.
The dinner includes pasta and meatballs, salad and cake. There also will be a bucket auction, a silent auction and a 50-50 raffle.
Program gets grant
YOUNGSTOWN
The Hine Memorial Fund of the Youngstown Foundation has awarded a $34,500 grant to the Special Navigator Program of Help Hotline Crisis Center.
