Poland 9, Boardman 8
POLAND
Winning pitcher Taylor Miokovic homered and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs (2-0). Chloe Bush doubled while Jenna Schletter and Brielle Nocera each had two hits. Miokovic retired all six batters she faced. For the Spartans (0-2), Miyah Mitchum’s three hits included a homer and she scored three runs. Morgan Smith’s two hits drove in three runs and Nicole Sanfilippo had two hits.
Windham 4, Ursuline 3
WINDHAM
Brittany Knight scattered six hits and struck out 10 as Windham (1-0) defeated Ursuline (1-1). Knight and Sam Dean each doubled and singled for the Bombers. Knight scored twice and Dean had 2 RBIs. Ursuline was lead by Makayla Shore who threw a five-hitter, struck out nine, and had a two-run single in the sixth as the Irish tried to rally from a 4-0 deficit. The rally was ended as Windham right fielder Paige Frazee made a gem of a catch and turned a double play. McKenzie Stimpert had two hits for the Irish.
Campbell 11, Yougstown Christian 10, 9 innings
CAMPBELL
Allison Such drove in Hannah Michaels in the bottom of the ninth to lift Campbell over Youngstown Christian in extra innings. Michaels also picked up the win for the Red Devils (1-0), striking out 16 in nine innings. Such and Tatyana Melko each recorded two hits. Natalia Suarez went 2-for-4 and the plate for Youngstown Christian (0-3) .
McDonald 1, Sebring 0
SEBRING
Summer Woloschak doubled home the game’s only run in the fourth inning and Cheyenne Titus pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 for the Blue Devils (1-1). Woloschak and Olivia Sanson each had two hits. McDonald’s Kendra Kelly walked in the fourth and scored on Woloschak’s double.
South Range 3, Crestview 2
BEAVER TOWNSHIP
Stevie Taylor hit a solo home run and and also came in to close out the win for South Range. The Raiders (1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind 5 1/3 innings of one-hit baseball, striking out 12 batters. Kendall Simms also had a double and a single for South Range. Autumn Lindsay gave up three runs on seven hits, picking up the loss, and the Rebels were held without a hit until the sixth inning.
Conneaut 6, Grand Valley 3
ORWELL
Lexi Zappitelli pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and helped her own cause with a home run as the visiting Spartans beat the Mustangs. Alyssa Chadwick singled twice and scored two runs for Conneaut. Cassandra Gallo singled twice and stole two bases and Chris Futty had a double for GV (0-1).
Southeast 3, Alliance 0
ALLIANCE
Jenna North singled in two runs in the first inning and Alicia Swierz pitched a two-hitter as the Pirates beat the Aviators. Josey Wheeler also singled in a run during a three-run uprising by Southeast (1-0) to start the game against Alliance (0-2).
Lakeview 4, Jefferson 1
JEFFERSON
Brooke Waid singled, doubled and drove in a run and Laura Innocenzi delivered a go-ahead, two-run single in the fifth inning as the Bulldogs beat the Falcons. Taylor Waid scattered six hits and struck out six for Lakeview, which lost to Jefferson. Brookfield 17, Lordstown 4
BROOKFIELD
Lauren Hawley had five RBIs, including a grand slam as part of a 10-run fifth inning, in Brookfield’s big win over Lordstown. Alisha Quinlan picked up the win allowing five hits and striking out seven. Quinlan also had two doubles for the Warriors.
LaBrae 12, Newton Falls 7
LABRAE
Kasey Rininger had two hits, including a two-run home run, as LaBrae held off Newton Falls. Emily Dugan recorded the victory for the Vikings (2-2) allowing just seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Jenna Ballas hit a two-run home run for the Tigers (0-2).
Mineral Ridge 8, United 0
MINERAL RIDGE
Darby Kolesar threw a two-hitter and had two hits herself in Mineral Ridge’s victory over United. She had eight strikeouts for the Rams (1-0). Mackenzie and Macy Garland each recorded two hits in the win. United fell to 1-1.
Canfield 17, Warren Harding 0
CANFIELD
Megan Kulisek allowed just one hit for the Cardinals (2-0, 2-0 AAC Red) while facing just 16 Harding (0-2, 0-2) hitters. Canfield’s offense was paced by Kara Rothbauer with a triple and two singles, Rachel Tinkey hit a three-run homer and Darby Cockrell had a triple and a single. In addition, three Cardinals — Caroline Griswold, Maura Kennedy and Kulisek — had two hits each.
Springfield 7, Jackson-Milton 4
NORTH JACKSON
Freshman Josie Applegarth struck out 10 in a complete-game effort in Springfield’s opener. Nikki Bovo led the Tigers’ offense with two doubles and two runs batted in and Taylor Johnston added two singles. Springfield broke open a scoreless tie with six runs in the sixth. Jackson-Milton put four runs on the board in the last of the seventh but the Bluejays’ comeback fell short.
Western Reserve 8, Columbiana 2
COLUMBIANA
A five-run fifth inning put the Blue Devils (2-0, 1-0 ITCL Tier 2) ahead for good as Maddie Krietzburg and Aleah Hughes combined to limit the Clippers. The WR offense included three singles each by Jenny Stubbs and Marley Oles, a double and a single by Gabby Stubbs and Hughes and a double by Alexis Lude. Lauren Schlueter and Roessler both doubled for the Clippers.
Mathews 22, Warren JFK 0
VIENNA
Cheyenne Eggens opened the season with a five-inning no-hitter. She also doubled. Jenna Siefert tripled and hit two doubles. Maddy Nicula drove in four runs, Paula Sponsler drove in three with two hits and Maddie Williams hit two triples. Maddi Grimes doubled while Meredith Grimes scored four runs.
