BCI, ethics commission search office of Trumbull engineer

WARREN

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted the Ohio Ethics Commission on Wednesday in executing a search warrant on the offices of Trumbull County Engineer Randy Smith.

Jill DelGreco, spokeswoman for the Ohio Attorney General's office, confirmed that agents were at the North River Road facility and that agents also executed a search warrant on the computer services offices at the Trumbull County Administration Building on on Courthouse Square.

DelGreco said no information was available on the nature of the investigation that prompted the search.

Earlier this week, an engineer's office employee filed a lawsuit in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court asking for Smith to be removed from office on the grounds that he violated ethics laws. This is allegedly because of a business relationship he had with a former employee, and because of work he purportedly did for the Trumbull County Board of Health after he became county engineer.
