Nittany Lions rout Penguins, 15-2

STATE COLLEGE, pa.

Penn State scored seven runs in the first inning and the final seven runs of the game in a 15-2 victory over Youngstown State Tuesday night at Medlar Field.

Phil Lipari singled and scored, and Kris Moules singled with an RBI for the Penguins, who return home to face Pittsburgh at 5:30 p.m. today at Eastwood Field.

Six different Nittany Lions players had two hits, and Taylor Skerpon drove in four runs.

Penguins finish fourth at Wildcat Invitational

MALVern, pa.

The Penguins held a first and second-round lead, but wound up fourth at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational which concluded on Tuesday at the White Manor Country Club.

YSU’s Bryan Yeo finished tied for eighth with a 221. Yeo had rounds of 75, 75 and an even-par 71 in the tournament. Mark Olbrych was 12th with a 223 (75-73-75), Brandon Pluchinsky finished 26th with a 229 (77-76-76), Bill Gaffney placed 31st with a 230 (71-84-75) and D.J. Holub was 66th with a 239 (85-79-75). Trevor Jones competed as an individual and tied for 10th place with a 222 (75-73-74).

Penguins finish ninth at Hoya Invitational

BEALLSVILLE, Md.

The Penguins improved 26 strokes between rounds and moved up to finish ninth at the 36-hole Hoya Invitational at The Members Club at Four Streams.

YSU had a 342 in rough conditions on Monday, but rebounded nicely with a 316 on Tuesday’s second and final round to card a 658 for the event.

Pennsylvania won the two-day tournament with a 607 while Michigan was second at 611 and Yale third at 620.

Leading the second-day turnaround for the Penguins was Aislynn Merling. Merling fired a 74 on Tuesday and had a 160 for the event following an opening round 80. She tied for 24th in the event.

Emily Rohanna finished 36th with a two-round score of 163 (80-83), Emily Dixon had a 14-stroke improvement between rounds. Dixon had an 89 for her first round before firing a 75 on Tuesday and finishing 41st with a 164. Mia Barchetti placed 63rd with a 173 (87-86) and Allison Mitzel was 67th with a 177 (93-84). Golfing as an individual, Angela Molaskey had a 181 (93-88).
