Youngstown Symphony Orchestra New season will include Patinkin and the voice of Ariel

The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra’s 2014-15 season will include appearances by Broadway and television star Mandy Patinkin, trumpet great Sean Jones and a few “American Idol” contestants.
All seven concerts — three in the classical series and four in the pops series — will begin at 8 p.m. at Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St.. For tickets, call the box office at 330-744-0264.
The classical series will begin Sept. 20 with “Dvorak’s Ninth Symphony” and “Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody.”
On March 21, 2015, the orchestra will salute the comedic genius of Charlie Chaplin and the musical versatility of Mozart by performing the score to the 1931 silent film “City Lights.”
The classical series will conclude April 15, 2015, with an appearance by Sean Jones, who is a Warren native. Jones will perform the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto. The concert also will include appearances by the Boardman High School combined choirs and the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra.
The pops series will open Oct. 18 with guest vocalist Mandy Patinkin, star of television’s “Chicago Hope” and “Homeland.”
The second pops concert will be Nov. 1 with vocalist Doug LaBrecque performing show stoppers from “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Jekyll and Hyde” and “Les Miserable.” Audience members will be invited to dress in their favorite costumes.
Jodie Benson, the voice of Ariel in “The Little Mermaid,” will join the Youngstown Connection and Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir for a Holiday Celebration concert Dec. 13.
LaKisha Jones, Haley Scarnato and Matt Giraud, finalists from “American Idol,” will join the orchestra for “Symphonic Valentine: Symphony Idol” on Feb. 14, 2015.
During the season, the orchestra also will present four Stained Glass Series concerts.
