CANTON
Makayla Shore (1-0) threw a three-hit shutout, striking out 11 as the Irish (1-0) defeated Canton Central Catholic (1-1). Shore also had two hits. Zoie Amatore and McKenzie Stimpert each had three hits for the Irish and scored two runs. One of Amatore’s hits was a triple and she had two RBIs. Abbie Kohler doubled for the Crusaders. Ursuline visits Windham today.
Canfield 10, Warren Harding 4
WARREN
Kara Rothbauer had two singles and a double with two RBIs and Rachel Tinkey had two singles and a double with one RBI for Canfield (1-0). Karina Kennedy singled and doubled and Amelia Manenti tripled. Tatyana Defoor had two hits for Harding (0-1).
Girard 5, Liberty 2
GIRARD
Neco Maderitz tossed a four-hitter, striking out nine and walking two without giving up an earned run for Girard (1-1). She also doubled. Mel Bakes had two hits, Karlee Byrne doubled and drove in a run and Gabby Cario doubled. Amy Mikulich hit a double and two singles for Liberty (1-1).
Sebring 5, McDonald 1
McDONALD
L. Dennis singled twice, M. Flowers drove in two runs and A. Bendinger had a triple to lead the Trojans (1-0). Sarah Smith pitched a one-hitter and struck out four for the victory. Cheyenne Titus pitched a three-hitter and struck out 16, but took the loss for the Blue Devils (0-1).
LaBrae 15, Newton Falls 10
LEAVITTSBURG
Lauren Rutherford and Morgan Meyer each had four hits and Haley Davies had three to lead the Vikings’ 21-hit attack as LaBrae outslugged Newton Falls. Kasey Rininger and Emily Dugan each had two hits and Somer McCoy, Brooklynn Weber and Rininger each drove in two runs. Skyler Gilanyi pitched two hitless, scoreless innings of relief for the victory. The Vikings erased a 10-7 deficit with two runs in the fifth and six in the sixth. Hannah Stamm had three hits for the Tigers and Dee Martin had two.
Louisville 5, West Branch 4
LOUISVILLE
Kaylie Lewis had two hits and Dani Lough doubled and drove in a run for West Branch (0-1), which scored three runs in the final two innings. Emily Cantley and Katie Cozy each homered for Louisville (1-0), which led 5-0 after three innings.
Jefferson 9, Lakeview 2
CORTLAND
McKenzie Wilber hit a two-run home run and was one of five Falcons with two hits in Jefferson’s season-opening victory. Bailey Beckwith, Alyssa Irons, Sam Hamski and Kaylee Fusco also had two hits each. Irons also tripled and drove in two runs. She scattered seven hits with 12 strikeouts for the victory. Alex Romano had three hits, including a home run, for the Bulldogs (0-1).
Champion 9, Brookfield 3
CHAMPION
Brittany Allen hit a two-run homer and Haylee Gardiner scattered six hits and struck out 12 for the Golden Flashes (2-0, 2-0 All-American Conference Red Division). Skylar Jones, Carissa Hurst and Toni Cameron each had two hits for Champion. Lauren Hawley hit a two-run homer and Hayley Hogue singled and doubled for for the Warriors (0-2, 0-2).
Columbiana 7, Lordstown 4
COLUMBIANA
Elise Hammond had two hits, Holly Gotthardt and Sierra Ross each drove in two runs and the Clippers used a six-run second inning to erase an early 3-1 deficit. Gotthardt and Lauren Schlueter each had a double for Columbiana (2-0). Madison Macklin struck out three for the victory. Haley Toporcer gave the Red Devils a short-lived lead with a three-run double in the top of the second inning.
