UPDATE | Barra stops short of saying GM is liable for deaths

Barra stopped short of saying GM accepts responsibility and liability for the deaths that occurred before GM’s restructuring in 2009 at today's Congressional hearing.

She said the company has not yet decided whether it will provide financial compensation to the families of those killed in crashes associated with the faulty ignition switch.

Barra identified the company had moral obligations and would “do the right thing for our customers.”
