CANTON
Boardman collected 11 hits and used strong fifth and sixth innings to defeat Canton South. Jake Bavn picked up the win for the Spartans. John Haslem was charged with the loss. Eddie Crump had three hits, while his teammates Evan Crouch, Scott Lenda, and Phil Diianni all had two. D.J. Wilson collected two hits for Canton South, which didn’t get on the board until the final inning.
Girard 8, Liberty 3
GIRARD
Kyle Harris picked up the win in Girard’s opener, throwing five shutout innings and allowing just one batter to reach base. He also struck out nine Liberty batters. Jimmy Standohar and Evan Standohar combined for four hits, three runs and three RBIs. Austin Degregory also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Niles 5, Struthers 1
STRUTHERS
Tyler Srbinovich and Chance Hanshaw combined on a four-hitter and Chris Parry’s three-hit game led an 11-hit Niles attack as the Red Dragons won an All-American Athletic Conference White Division opener. Srbinovich worked around six walks and struck out four while giving up three hits in his six innings on the mound. Hanshaw earned the save with a scoreless seventh with one strikeout and one hit allowed. James Tate and Jaret Johnson had two hits apiece for Niles and Cameron Carson and Murphy Miller both doubled. Struthers was paced by Marcus Donnadio with a double and a single. Gary Muntean and Kolton Rudzik pitched for the Wildcats.
Howland 11, Mathews 1
NILES
Kyle Watson had two hits and three RBIs and Evan Steele had a hit and two RBIs for Howland. Tigers pitcher Stephen Hornak allowed one run on three hits in 52/3 innings to pick up the win. Jeremy Forsythe tripled in the second inning and was knocked in by Alex Bagaglia for the Mustangs’ only run.
Steubenville Catholic 10, Beaver Local 0
STEUBENVILLE
Beaver Local managed just two hits against Steubenville Catholic in a five-inning game. The Crusaders jumped on the Beavers (1-2) early, scoring nine runs in the first two innings. N. Ivkovich did the rest, striking out four and walking two over five innings of work. Josh Beck and Caleb Jackson had hits for the Beavers.
