UPDATE | City records first homicide of the year


YOUNGSTOWN — Police have identified 24-year-old Maurise Kerns as the man found shot to death early this morning on the porch of a vacant 573 Idora Ave. home

His death is the city's first homicide of the year.

Kerns was found shot to death on the porch of the vacant South Side home about 3 a.m. today

It is the city's first homicide of the year.

Police found the man after gunshot sensors detected gunfire in the area, said Chief of Detectives Capt. Brad Blackburn.

The victim had a firearm on him when he was found and officers did collect some shell casings, Blackburn said. A SUV was also found in the driveway of the home.
