A free training workshop for high-school students with disabilities and their families, “Planning for Life After High School,” will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 10 in Sharon Hall Room 105 on Penn Avenue.

The workshop is presented by The Pennsylvania Training Partnership for People with Disabilities and Families in cooperation with Penn State Shenango’s Office of Disability Services. To register, call Regina Sciullo, ACHIEVA Training Coordinator at 724-837-8159, ext. 164.

The workshop is designed to provide students and their families with overall guidance on how to transition from high school to adulthood. The workshop emphasizes the importance of developing a vision and a person-centered plan. Such areas as employment, recreational activities, friendships, communication, continuing education, transportation and rights and responsibilities will be discussed. Personal stories of successful and unsuccessful student transitions will be shared and discussed.

Participants will receive information on resources available to them from the Social Security Administration, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Office of Developmental Programs and the Housing Authority.
