Campbell police search car and find drugs

CAMPBELL

Police stopped a car for failing to stop at the intersection of Gladstone Street and Courtland Avenue on Friday, then arrested its passenger on multiple drug charges.

At about 9 p.m., police pulled over the car for the traffic violation, and soon discovered that the driver — 46-year-old Lonnie Watts of Youngstown — did not have a valid driver’s license.

Police also noticed that the passenger — 45-year-old Billy Watts of Youngstown — had an open container of alcohol nestled in between his feet. After searching the car, police found 0.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine and a suspected marijuana joint. Billy Watts claimed ownership of the suspected crack cocaine, admitting that he’d just purchased it; police assumed that the suspected marijuana joint was his, too, since it was found near where he was sitting in the car.

Billy Watts was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, as well as for having an open container of alcohol.

Lonnie Watts was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign and for not having a valid driver’s license.

Both will appear in court on Tuesday.
