Man shot in chest

YOUNGSTOWN

A man was in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center on Saturday night after being shot in the chest and the leg. The shooting occurred about 7 p.m. on East Judson Avenue.

Gunman confronted

YOUNGSTOWN

A 33-year-old Griffith Street man was shot late Friday when he went to turn off his car alarm. The man told police he saw a man dressed in black come around the side of the building holding a handgun.

The man fired the gun and the victim ran at first, but then decided to confront the gunman. The two fought for the gun, and the victim was shot in the side and in the center abdomen. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Old library burns

YOUNGSTOWN

City firefighters responded Friday night to a blaze at a vacant North Jackston Street commercial building for the fifth time in three months.

Shortly before 9 p.m. crews arrived to find heavy fire conditions with indications of imminent roof collapse. They took precautions in battling the blaze and taped off the building because of the instability of the exterior walls. The building was formerly a library. Damage is estimated at $65,000.

Boil advisory lifted

HUBBARD

The Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer’s office has lifted the boil advisory issued Thursday for state Route 7, south of Chestnut Ridge Road, in Hubbard Township.

Marriage equality

MERCER, PA.

The Central West Marriage Equality for Pennsylvania organization will host a Pennsylvania equality picnic and food drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Mercer County Courthouse lawn, 100 N. Diamond St. Guests are invited to show their support for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgendered and others questioning their sexual and/or gender orientation in the Mercer area during the event. Admission is free. Attendees are asked to take a bagged lunch and blanket to hear guest speakers, listen to live music and have some family-friendly fun. Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to be distributed to the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County.
