YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Soil and Water Conservation District will host its fall 2013 fish stocking sale.

Fingerling size large-mouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, crappies, yellow perch, redear shellcrackers, minnows and white amur will be offered.

Patrons will order through the Mahoning SWCD office, 850 Industrial Road, and the deadline will be Oct. 11.

The pick-up date will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

When picking up an order, patrons have special instructions depending on their purchases.

Customers are asked to bring five gallons to eight gallons of pond water per 100 fish of each species; five gallons of water for every two white amur; 30-gallon trash cans lined with trash bags that can be tied shut and are free of holes. It may also be noted that less than 150 bass, bluegill, minnows, perch or catfish can be put in one container.

Fish are guaranteed to be delivered in good condition; however, the SWCD does not guarantee survival after they have been stocked in a pond. There will be no refunds.

Cost will be 80 cents each for 2- to 3-inch bass and 2- to 4-inch bluegill; 85 cents each for 4- to 5-inch channel catfish, 2- to 4-inch crappies and redear shellcrackers, and 3- to 4-inch yellow perch; $6 for 100 fathead minnows; and $14 each for 8- to 12-inch white amur.

A limited number of pond-safety kits, including a flotation ring, reach pole, deep-water sign and safety instructions, will be available for sale at the fish pick-up site.

Call the SWCD for prices.
