Fire forces Girard familiy from home Saturday afternoon

GIRARD

A Prospect Street family was staying with relatives Saturday night after fire forced them from their home.

Firefighters were called to the home at 206 W. Prospect about 4 p.m. where one of the residents told them a candle had been burning in the basement.

The fire climbed to the first floor through the stairwell, causing an estimated $40,000 damage, a fire department spokesman said.

A child at the home was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
