Arrested in assault

Police arrested a city man about 8 p.m. Thursday who witnesses say broke into a home in the 3000 block of South Avenue and shoved a pregnant woman into a wall several times.

The woman said she was visiting a friend when Aurienn Jones, 22, came in, told the victim, “You are not allowed on the South Side,” slammed her into the wall, spit in her face and showed her a gun.

Police later found Jones in the 300 block of East Lucius Avenue and made the arrest. He is charged with aggravated burglary and assault. Police searched for a gun but could not find one.

Charged with theft

BOARDMAN

Township police arrested a Niles man Thursday after he was caught pocketing money at his workplace.

Jason Plant, 38, was working at Advanced Auto Parts on Boardman-Canfield Road when a loss-prevention manager found him making fraudulent returns, according to a police report.

When confronted, Plant admitted to taking $60.94.

He was charged with theft and given a summons. He will be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Mahoning County Area Court here.

Police cite 3 men

YOUNGSTOWN

Police cited three men for unauthorized removal after officers say they caught them taking items Thursday afternoon out of a house heavily damaged by fire.

Officers were called to the South Side neighborhood of East Philadelphia Avenue and Erie Street about 3 p.m. for a report of people in the drive of a home in the 200 block of East Philadelphia Avenue taking items out of the house. When officers arrived, they spotted a pickup truck pulling out of the drive loaded with goods and stopped it, reports said.

Inside the truck was a burned-out refrigerator, a burned freezer chest and a washer and dryer. One of the men in the truck at first said the items were on the curb, then said they were in the backyard.

Cited were city residents Harold Shuler, 22; Derek Smith, 23; and Julius May, 57.

Serbian Day

AUSTINTOWN

Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 420 N. Raccoon Road, will host its annual Serbian Day beginning at 3 p.m. today. Festivities will include live music, pastries, lamb and cevaps, and refreshments. Admission for adults is $3; children under 12 and seniors are admitted free.

Work-day event

YOUNGSTOWN

Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will have a work day beginning at 1 p.m. today at 1669 Bancroft Ave., just off Sheridan Road, at Bancroft Commons Park. The association is asking for as many volunteers as possible to come out and donate any time they can.
