The city board gives $173,150 to two businesses

The city board of control approved $173,150 in grant money to assist two businesses — $100,000 to a software company at the downtown business incubator and $73,150 to a proposed high school for students with autism at the former Anthem building on Market Street.
The board OK’d the requests Thursday; they were made by the Youngstown Initiative Program committee.
The Learning Egg LLC at the Youngstown Business Incubator, 241 W. Federal St., is receiving $100,000 toward its $514,750 expansion plan.
The school-test-scoring software company is spending most of the money for software upgrades with small amounts for marketing, said Tom DeAngelo, the city’s economic development coordinator.
The company has four full-time workers and four part-timers. It plans to add 32 full-time employees over the next three years, DeAngelo said.
Also, Potential Development Program is remodeling the former Anthem Building at 2405 Market St. to create a high school for students with autism.
The city board agreed to give $73,150 toward the business’s $365,750 project.
The money is going toward reconstruction work, DeAngelo said.
Potential Development has 52 full-time workers and two part-timers at its two preschools and a kindergarten-8 school for children with autism.
The high school plans to add 30 full-time jobs over its first three years.
