Poland Union Elementary School got ready for football season Sept. 13 during its tailgate.
The fourth annual PTO tailgate was offered at Poland Seminary High School, prior to the Poland versus Boardman football game.
Children attending the tailgate could get their face painted, tattoos or make a noisemaker for the game.
Christina Hammon, PTO member and event organizer, said the event is family oriented.
“Not only are the kids and the parents interacting, but the parents get to meet the kids’ friends,” said Hammon.
Kohls volunteers passed out pizza, pop and snacks for the tailgate. Patti Mayberry, one of the Kohls volunteers explained why she volunteered her time.
“It’s a privilege for us to do it, we enjoy it,” said Mayberry.
Hammon said the tailgate always has a good turnout.
“I had 453 people RSVP this year,” said Hammon.
Hammon said Poland is a close-knit community.
“The tailgate speaks volumes for the kind of support that the community gives to the schools,” said Hammon.
Michael Masucci, principal of Union Elementary, said the tailgate is a good time.
“It’s a great way to start the year out,” said Masucci.
