Trial starts in death of burned Ohioan along road

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Jury selection has begun in the trial of an Ohio man accused in the gruesome death of a woman found covered in burns and wailing in agony along a rural road.

The Muskingum County prosecutor’s office says jury selection began today in LaFonse Dixon’s trial. He has pleaded not guilty to murder, kidnapping and arson in the killing of 29-year-old Celeste Fronsman of Canton.

A driver found Fronsman on a road northeast of Zanesville in eastern Ohio in August 2012. She had been raped and burned and had a strap around her neck. She died two days later.

Two women arrested with Dixon pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and agreed to testify against him to avoid the death penalty.

Prosecutors have declined to discuss a motive in the killing.
