HALEY SMITH

Names: Lindsay Pauline; Haley Smith

Instruments: Rifle Line Captain, Bass Clarinet; Clarinet, Rifle Line

Q. When did you start playing your instrument?

A. Pauline: I started playing the clarinet in the fifth grade, and in tenth grade I made the rifle line and started playing the bass clarinet.

Smith: I’ve been playing clarinet since the fifth grade.

Q. If you could play any other instrument, what would it be and why?

A. Pauline: If I could play any other instrument, I would want to play either the piano or the trumpet because they are both so different from the clarinet and I love the way they sound.

Smith: I’d definitely play drums. I think the quads look like so much fun. But in retrospect, I might not have left the drum line to try out for the rifle line, so it’s probably a good thing.

Q. Best memory of being in band/marching band?

A. Pauline: All of my best friends are also in band, so I have countless memories of having fun with them at band events, especially football games and the annual band trips.

Smith: Making rifle line captain for my senior year is definitely an experience that stands out to me. I’ve also had some memorable moments at Denny’s with my friends after games.

Q. Why is music important to you?

A. Pauline: Music is important to me because it’s a refreshing change of pace from a busy day at school or home. It allows me to think differently, and I love to perform and listen to music.

Smith: I’ve met almost all of my closest friends through band and I have been presented with so many incredible opportunities. It’s such a rewarding program.

Q. What college do you hope to attend/intended major?

A. Pauline: I hope to attend Kent State University next fall with a major in Biochemistry.

Smith: I plan to study pre-med as a Biochemistry major at Ohio University.
