Sid and Joe both began playing percussion when they joined the band in the fifth grade. Joe has enjoyed every minute of being in the band.

Q. What competitions did you participate in and what awards have you won?

A. Aaron: Every year the percussion section has a drum-off against Canfield.

Vitello: I have participated in district contests since my sophomore year. Also, every year the percussion section participates in a drum-off against Canfield and sometimes other high school band percussion sections.

Q. Best memory of being in band/marching band?

A. Aaron: I really enjoyed the 2012 drum-off against Canfield.

Vitello: Playing at Massillon Band Night for the past four years. Also, the water balloon fights we have during band camp in the Summer.

Q. Why is music important to you?

A. Aaron: It is fun to play and gives me something to look forward to every day at school. Some of my favorite musical pieces were “Carry On My Wayward Son.” I have listened to “Kansas” since I was about 5 years old and that was my all time favorite song by them.

Vitello: Growing up music was always a part of my life. My grandfather was a drummer and he encouraged my love of music ever since I could remember. I enjoyed “The Washington Post March” that we play for the Memorial Day Parade. It is a favorite of mine because it has an upbeat sound. I also enjoyed playing “2013 Pop Medley” because it has different styles of music throughout the piece.

Q. What college do you hope to attend/intended major?

A. Aaron: I plan to attend UTI for NASCAR engine specialist.

Vitello: Youngstown State University. I am undecided on my major.
