The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday that Garden Fresh Foods of Milwaukee is recalling approximately 19,054 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken and ham products due to possible Listeria contamination.

Products affected include Market Pantry All White Meat Chicken Salad; Archer Farms Rotisserie Chicken Salad; Archer Farms Bacon Parmesan Dip; D’Amico and Sons chicken and pasta salads; Finest Traditions Ham Salad Spread; Garden Fresh Ham Salad; and Weis Ham Salad.

ValvTechnologies to expand in 5 states

Portersville, pa.

ValvTechnologies, which manufactures valves, announced Thursday a plan for expansion in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York, Ohio and Maryland.

The company said it will build a 60,000 square-foot facility in Lawrence County. The company recently purchased a 23-acre site in an unspecified location. It will create 25 jobs.

Burger King to have grand reopening

The Austintown Burger King, 5310 Mahoning Avenue, will have a grand reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday.

The first 300 customers will receive a free Whopper sandwich coupon. The fast-foot restaurant also will host a giveaway for a Dr Pepper mountain bike and helmet, with the drawing at 11 a.m. Oct. 19.

Refresh Dental to open new facility

Refresh Dental soon will open its eighth location in the area at 5600 Mahoning Ave.

Government sells more GM shares

NEW YORK

The U.S. government is starting another phase of selling off its General Motors stock after cutting its stake in the automaker to just over 7 percent.

The Treasury Department says it still owns 101.3 million GM shares. It got 912 million shares, a 60.8 percent stake in the company, in exchange for a $49.5 billion bailout of GM in 2009.

So far, taxpayers have recovered about $36 billion. That means they’re still about $13.5 billion in the hole.

Signs emerge that US job market may be picking up

WASHINGTON

The job market is sending signs that it may be strengthening.

The number of people seeking unemployment benefits has sunk to its lowest point in six years because few companies are laying anyone off anymore.

A survey of service companies found that they added jobs last month at their fastest pace in six months. And more small businesses say they plan to hire than at any point since the recession began.
