Mooney leads D2 tennis seedings

Cardinal Mooney dominated the seedings for the Division II girls tennis sectional scheduled next week at Boardman Tennis Center.

In singles, the Cardinals’ Kacey Haggerty is the top seed and Gianna Reider is seeded third. Mooney claimed the top two seeds in doubles with Jamie DiDomenico and Dominique Cicchi first and Lexie Kleeh and Lizzie Matthews second.

The top four finishers in both singles and doubles advance to the district tournament the following week at Canton.

Other seeds are Elise Eckman of Poland, second, and Ashley Kirila of Brookfield, fourth, in singles. In doubles, the Poland team of Cara Palusak and Audrey Schweers of Poland is third and the McDonald duo of Tory Ross and Jai’Lyn Mosley is fourth.

In Division I, the Canfield doubles team of Hannah Cianciola and Ashley Kaleel is seeded third in the sectional scheduled Tuesday and Oct. 5 at Canton’s Harvard Park. The top four in both singles and doubles advance to the district at Oberlin College.

Schools playing in the Division I event include Austintown Fitch, Boardman, Canfield, Warren Harding and Howland.

In Division II, area schools competing at Boardman are Cardinal Mooney, Ursuline, Poland, Struthers, Liberty, Niles, Salem, West Branch, Brookfield, Warren JFK, Lakeview, McDonald, Lordstown and United.
