140 pound Cards defeat Little Falcons

The 140 pound defending YAC Superbowl Champions Austintown Falcons went down in flames against the Canfield Little Cardinals at Bob Dove Field Sept. 8.

The Cards began the game in typical fashion holding the Falcons on a fake punt and on their first possession Nick Crawford scored from three and added two points on the next play. The Falcons threw deep for six in the next series but missed the point after touchdown leaving it 8-6 in the first.

The Cards completed some punishing runs topped off by a Crawford 15-yard run behind Seth Hull and Anthony D’Alesio. That drive was capped by an Ethan Fletcher point after touchdown pass to Peyton Kostelic. The Falcons got the ball back only to throw an interception to Santino Marucci who returned it to the Falcons 3-yard line. Crawford failed to convert the point after touchdown.

On their next possession, the Falcons fumbled a shotgun snap and Ethan Fletcher recovered on the Cards 45. Marucci threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Crawford, followed by a Fletcher point after touchdown to make it 30-6 at the half.

In the third quarter the Cards failed to convert a fourth and 15, turning the ball over to the Falcons who again threw deep for six with a failed conversion. Marucci hit Jake Kowal for another touchdown pass but failed to convert the two points, bringing the total to 36-12. After getting the ball back, the Falcons threw a second interception to Crawford. Fletcher then took it 15 yards to pay dirt on the next possession, followed by a D’Alesio conversion bringing it to 44-12.

The Cardinals second team defense entered the game and the Falcons took advantage scoring on the last play of the game to make the final 44-18 Falcons.
