Police arrest two for South Side burglary

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a 21-year-old man and a juvenile on burglary charges Wednesday after responding to a report of a prowler on the South Side.

Officers were called to Gaither Avenue, and while on the way there, an officer spotted a car parked in the drive of a home in the 200 block of Gaither Avenue with the hood up.

The officer noted in his report he thought that was suspicious because the road is not heavily traveled. He stopped to question the man who was inside the car.

As he did, he saw two other men carrying gun cases. One of them had a magazine for a handgun, so he ordered the men to the ground at gunpoint and called for assistance, reports said.

Officers found a stun gun, a BB gun and a small amount of cash on the men, reports said.

Police also went inside the home the car was parked at and found it ransacked. Someone placed a recycling bin under a window to get inside, according to reports.

The man in the car, Shay Brown, 21, of Youngstown, told police he went in the house but didn’t take anything. He was arrested on a burglary charge and taken to Mahoning County jail.

The juvenile was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center on burglary charges.

Reports are not clear what happened to the third man.
