JFK boys win Division II sectional tournament

BRACEVILLE

The Warren JFK won the Division III boys golf sectional tournament Wednesday at Riverview Golf Course in Braceville, with Ryan Fowler leading all golfers with a 70.

The Eagles shot a 307, 25 strokes better than second-place Newton Falls. Jackson-Milton shot 343 for third place.

The top three schools qualify for the district tournament on Oct. 2 at Tannehauf. Also qualifying were the top three individuals from non-qualifying teams: Steve Gill, Lordstown, 77; Mike Shuller, McDonald, 81; and Nate Spitler, Maplewood, 83.

In addition to Fowler, Warren JFK’s golfers and scores were: Billy Phillips, 75; Daniel Lapolla, 79; and Zach Shoaf, 83.

Newton Falls has: Jacob Harrah, 71; Sean Croell, 85; Zachery Berry, 86; and Tyler Phelps, 90.

Jackson-Milton has: Nick Householder, 81; Robert Chance Proverbs, 84; Spenser Huzicka, 87; and Matt Johns, 91.

Poland girls sink Columbiana by one stroke in Division II

HUBBARD

In the girls Division II sectional at Pine Lakes in Hubbard, Poland defeated Columbiana by a single stroke 382-383. Cardinal Mooney’s Cait Butler shot the low round of the day with an 83, but Cheyanne Morrow of Hubbard had the shot of the day. She recorded the first ever Hubbard sectional hole-in-one at the par-3 third hole.

Poland was led by Melinda Hannon’s 85, while Columbiana was paced by an 86 from Alexa Tringhese.

The other schools that qualified for Tuesday’s district tournament at Tam O’Shanter Hills in Canton were Cardinal Mooney and Warren JFK. The four individual qualifiers from non-qualifying teams were Emily Koehler (Mathews) with an 84, Sydney Heinbaugh (Ursuline) with an 85, Skylar Ladig (Hubbard) 89, and Taylor Coblentz (Crestview) 91.
