Ex-Philly priest charged amid new abuse complaint
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A former Philadelpiha priest suspected of abusing more than 20 children has been criminally charged after a new accuser came forward.
Father Robert L. Brennan, 75, has been arrested in Perryville, Md., where he has been living since he was suspended after a 2005 grand jury report.
At the time, prosecutors said it was too late to pursue complaints that went back decades.
But accusers now have more time to pursue charges, and a new accuser says Brennan sexually assaulted him from 1998 to 2001, starting when he was 11.
District Attorney Seth Williams says he would have also charged Monsignor William Lynn with child endangerment for allegedly hiding the earlier complaints, but the statute for that charge had run out.
Lynn, the longtime secretary for clergy in Philadelphia, is in prison for endangering another child.
