Don’t let corporate greed take over more of America

I was watching the 1976 movie “Network” the other day, and the speech that an Arthur Jensen gives to a Howard Beale sure rings true in America today.

He stated, “There is no America today, there is no democracy, there is only IBM, ITT and AT&T and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations.”

This is not a sci-fi movie; this is truly what’s going on today, and you can add a whole lot more greedy corporations. Both the Democrats and Republicans can share the blame for allowing corporate greed to overtake their sworn duty to govern, but then up pops a group of people who think corporations are people and the middle-class should be at the bottom and not in the middle. The tea party emerges.

Corporations, millionaires and billionaires make up 2 percent of the American people so somewhere along the line majority rule has gotten its meaning overlooked, and if the tea party and its cohorts, the religious right wing, get their way, eliminated.

You hear a lot about Ronald Reagan from the tea-party Republicans, but they won’t tell you that his eight years in office were the start of cutting social programs, increasing spending on defense, tax cuts on the wealthy and watching unemployment increase. Sound familiar? That’s what the tea party is trying to do today, but thank God they don’t control everything.

So, in 2014 and 2016, get to the polls and show them that corporate greed will not take over your America.
