Police are trying to match up stolen property, found at a Ravine Road home on the East Side, with its owners.

Investigators say the property seized Tuesday is part of an investigation into a string of burglaries over last month in the Forest View and Bennington Avenue areas of the East Side.

Chief of Detectives Capt. Mark Milstead said detectives are trying to build a case against those who may have been responsible for the burglaries. He said no charges will be filed until all the property that police seized can be checked for ownership.

For now, the only two suspects are the father and son who live in the home, Milstead said. He said detectives still are trying to figure out their role in the burglaries.

Milstead said both the father and son have had dealings with police in the past.

Among the more common items that police found were flat-screen televisions. Milstead said they are very popular with thieves and also can be used to trade for other goods.

“They’re like money on the street,” Milstead said.

“They had them stacked up like they were in a department store,” said Detective Sgt. Carl Davis, the lead investigator.

Milstead said detectives were getting calls all day Wednesday from people who had items stolen and were checking to see if police had recovered them. Milstead said they expect some items to belong to people who live in different parts of town, and Davis said he matched some property up with an address on Redondo Avenue on the North Side.

Police served a search warrant at the home Tuesday after receiving a tip from a neighbor about two days before. Davis said most of the burglaries were committed by someone breaking in a window or door or pushing an air conditioner out of a window.
