POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Sept. 21
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a garage and a shed in the 600 block of Joan Avenue, then removed a $15 gas can.
Theft: A vehicle in the 600 block of East Kline Street was found to have been ransacked with about $4 worth of change missing.
Breaking and entering: A garage in the 600 block of East Kline Street was broken into. Loose change and several compact discs were taken from two cars.
Theft: A wallet was missing from a vehicle in the 800 block of Mosier Road.
Sept. 22
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A woman said her former boyfriend, of East Main Street, took but failed to return her 2008 Chevrolet.
Arrests: Authorities responded to a disturbance and possible gunshots on Verona Street before issuing a summons accusing 21-year-old Jason T. Martin of Verona, Girard, of discharging a firearm within city limits, and charging Corey L. Garlock, 21, and Brittany N. Garlock, 22, both of Plaza Avenue, Warren, with criminal trespassing. The couple was in a dispute with Martin before he admitted having fired two 9 mm rounds into the ground to scare Corey Garlock, who also was wanted on a Weathersfield Township warrant, police said.
Stolen property: Charges of receiving stolen property and obstructing justice were pending against a Girard man after police received information that a stolen all-terrain vehicle’s owner had spotted his vehicle. A short time later, officers saw the ATV in a North Lorain Avenue driveway being stripped of parts and, when questioned, the man provided false information, a report said.
Criminal damaging: A car in the 500 block of Joan Avenue had its hood and front headlights spray-painted.
Theft: Two laptop computers, two textbooks and other property was missing from a car on South Market Street. The loss was estimated at $1,825.
Criminal damaging: While on patrol, an officer noticed several homes in the 600 block of East Broadway Avenue had been spray-painted. In addition, the officer saw spray paint on a garage door in the 700 block of East Kline Street.
Menacing: A woman walking on Church Hill-Hubbard Road said a man drove by and yelled at her, including making a derogatory comment.
Criminal mischief: Someone in the 500 block of East Liberty Street spray-painted and did extensive damage to a pickup truck.
LIBERTY
Sept. 17
Harassment: A Mansell Drive woman reported getting threatening Facebook messages after having hosted a birthday party at which she asked a guest to leave.
Damage: A tow truck sent to repossess a vehicle in the 300 block of East Liberty Street apparently left ruts in part of an adjacent lawn.
Arrest: Boardman police handed 29-year-old Jermaine D. Bell of Philadelphia Avenue, Youngstown, to township authorities. Bell was wanted on a warrant.
Aggravated menacing: A Goist Lane man told officers a former employee sent three text messages threatening to blow up the accuser regarding money owed.
Arrest: Police in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue took into custody Jason T. Strutt, 20, of Evans Street, Niles, who was wanted on a probation- violation warrant from that city charging resisting arrest.
Fraud: A man discovered $20,600 worth of fraudulent checks had been deposited into three accounts, including three such checks totaling $14,600 at a Belmont Avenue bank, from which $6,500 was withdrawn.
Domestic violence: A 14-year-old township girl was charged with the crime after her sister, 13, alleged the older girl had punched her face several times, tore out some of her hair and threw the accuser down a flight of steps during an argument. Also, police were shown a video that appeared to corroborate the accuser’s version, a report said.
Forgery: An elderly man reportedly tried to pass a fake prescription at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave., to obtain Percocet, a commonly prescribed painkiller.
Sept. 18
Theft: A man and a woman stole deodorant and a garbage can from Rite Aid Pharmacy, 2704 Belmont Ave.
Arrest: Rodney A. Gray, 24, of the Mahoning County jail was picked up on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Identity fraud: The owner of a Norwick Avenue business learned someone had used the company’s name to fraudulently obtain $500 worth of electric service.
Theft: The owner of a Belmont Avenue auto-service business alleged his tenant sold 365 gallons of used oil that had been on the accuser’s property.
Sept. 19
Bad checks: A worker for Launch Local Inc., 1282 Trumbull Ave., told officers someone sought to buy $44 worth of merchandise with a check later returned on a closed account. Similarly, police received a complaint that an East Liverpool woman, 40, had written such a check for $1,201.
Harassment: An Oakwood Avenue woman told police her 13-year-old son received a cellphone call in which the boy was asked inappropriate personal questions.
Arrest: John W. Stricko of South Schenley Avenue, Youngstown, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail. The 49-year-old Stricko was wanted on a probation-violation charge.
Burglary: To an apartment in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive through the front door. Three flat-screen TVs were removed, for a $1,200 loss.
Arrest: Police responded to a suspicious person at a Belmont Avenue motel, where they arrested 25-year-old Bunmi P. Adeoye Jr. upon learning the Cincinnati man was wanted on a Cook County, Ill., warrant charging armed robbery. He was taken to the Trumbull County jail to await extradition to Illinois.
Breaking and entering: Someone in the 400 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road broke into a concession stand before stealing an undisclosed sum of money as well as $100 worth of food and drinks.
Drugs: A traffic stop on Gypsy Lane led to 46-year-old Anthony C. Donaldson’s arrest on charges of possession of crack cocaine and criminal tools. Donaldson, of Bennett Avenue Northwest, Warren, had a police scanner and 2.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine in his sock, authorities said.
Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail picked up and booked Dante J. Mason, 23, of Townsend Avenue, Liberty, on two counts each of passing bad checks and driving under suspension.
Weapon: Authorities responded to someone in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive carrying a gun before filing a felony inducing-panic charge against a 17-year-old Liberty boy. The teen had been walking in a parking lot pointing a BB gun that closely resembled a loaded firearm and causing fear, a report showed.
Sept. 20
Possible burglary: Officers received information about a possible break-in at a residence in foreclosure in the 90 block of Oriole Drive. Two Cleveland subcontractors had entered but said they were to perform work at the home, a report stated.
Weapon: A suspicious vehicle off Belmont Avenue caught officers’ attention before they charged 26-year-old Winston F. Layton II of Garfield Street, McDonald, with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a first-degree misdemeanor. Layton failed to notify police of a loaded .40-caliber pistol and a concealed-carry permit, they said.
Sept. 21
Burglary: To a residence in the 200 block of Mansell Drive via a rear window. A lawn mower, two cordless drills and an air compressor were taken.
Breaking and entering: Someone forcibly entered Custom Performance Products, 2954 Youngstown-Hubbard Road, and removed from a garage a safe containing an undisclosed amount of money and jewelry.
Drugs: Police investigating a vehicular accident in the 1300 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road charged Alicia M. Kusnir of Warner Road, Brookfield, with drug abuse after saying Kusnir, 19, had two small cylinder containers with suspected marijuana residue and a small bag of suspected marijuana.
Sept. 22
Drug paraphernalia: Officers responded to a report regarding someone possibly smoking marijuana in a room at a Belmont Avenue motel, then charged 31-year-old John J. Pirozzi of Clementon, N.J., with possession of drug paraphernalia. A suspected marijuana pipe and two devices commonly used to grind marijuana were found, police said.
Arrest: Rashid C. Lewis, 25, faced a charge of obstructing official business during a traffic stop on Green Acres Drive after police issued a summons accusing Lewis, of West Florida Avenue, Youngstown, of providing a false name and date of birth.
Drugs: Jerome F. Prieto, 27, of Wellington Avenue, Youngstown, was taken into custody after having been pulled over on Logangate Road and charged with drug abuse. Prieto, who also was wanted on a probation-violation charge, had two small suspected marijuana cigars, a report said.
Drugs: Suspicious activity in the 700 block of East Liberty Street led to a summons charging David R. Hunkus, 21, of East Main Street, Girard, with drug abuse when, police said, he had a suspected marijuana pipe and a small bag of suspected marijuana.
Theft: Jason W. Breedlove, 40, of Beech Street, Girard, was given a summons charging him with stealing a bottle of bourbon from Goodies Bar & Grill, 1620 Motor Inn Drive.
